Lucia DeSoto is an experienced Marriage and Family Therapist who sees individuals, couples, and families. She specializes in trauma-focused therapy. Lucia maintains a private practice in both Mira Mesa and Ocean Beach, subdivisions of San Diego, California. She is a Christian therapist who believes in the amazing healing power of God’s presence.
Lucia graduated from the University of San Diego in 1996 with a Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy after spending 20 years as a practicing registered nurse. Over more than 20 years, she has treated a number of clients with a wide range of different mental health diagnoses. In addition she has supervised a number of Marriage and Family Therapist Trainees and Interns. While working at the San Diego Rescue Mission for 16 years, she obtained a deep understanding and compassion for people of all different backgrounds.
Lucia treats each of her clients and their stories with the highest respect. She believes that almost every human being has endured some sort of trauma, even if it is the ” trauma of omission”. In a very personal, interactive fashion, she explores with her clients the negative belief systems which they have developed over time and which get in the way of their present happiness and fulfillment in life. She has seen, first hand, the powerful effect which EMDR therapy has had in bringing positive resolution to traumatic memories. Because of this she is able to hold out to her clients a real hope for healing and wholeness in the future.
Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from San Diego State University in 1972 & Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from University of San Diego in 1996.
